Concepts Plus realised an interactive media installation for Frank
Reinecke, a multimedia artist, as part of the "Sapphire
99" in Nice, a conference organized by the SAP AG for employees
and partner companies from around the world. The installation dealt
with three dimensional traces of nomadic life, using the examples of
pilgrimage (Santiago de Compostella) forced migration (slaves in Salvador
de Bahia) and traditional nomadism (Namibia). These points form Frank´s
"Atlantic Triangle".
We developed a system which senses the position of users within a large triangular space. The walls were projection surfaces for 3 video projectors, from which the computer built one virtual screen.
Users moved around the space in order to "steer" still images
and video sequences into the corners where they belonged, where they
were caught, patching together a portrait of the places as more images
and sequences are added. A large map of the Atlantic Triangle printed
on the carpeted floor helped with orientation and identification of
the places.
