"Warped space" is used as an analogy for distortions of time
and space. Geometric shapes are projected onto a cylindrical surface,
which can be warped into an hourglass form by the visitor. The projected
shapes are then distorted.
The exhibit is mounted on a solid axle, which runs floor to ceiling.
Two discs form the top and bottom of the cylinder, the surface of which
is defined by innumerable white cord lengths. The top disc is fixed,
and the visitor to cause an hourglass form can rotate the bottom disc.
A slipping clutch ensures that the bottom disc can not be turned too
far. The slide projector with 6 motives is controlled with an infrared
remote control. Built in 2000, for Science
Center Universum, Bremen.
